This Friday’s highly anticipated MATHAME: NEO show in Los Angeles has officially been cancelled amid a wave of protests and unrest following a series of immigration raids across the United States. The event was set to open the Framework Summer 2025 series, a staple annual lineup hosted by the Los Angeles-based live events team This Is Framework.

The Italian DJ and production duo Mathame — comprised of brothers Matteo and Amedeo Giovanelli — made the difficult decision to cancel their June 20th appearance in light of ongoing tensions in Los Angeles. In a public statement, the artists shared:

“Our hearts are with the people of Los Angeles and all the communities currently facing hardship. In times like these, celebrating simply doesn’t feel right.”

The cancellation follows a week of widespread protests in downtown Los Angeles and throughout the county, sparked by high-profile immigration raids conducted throughout Southern California.

Mayor Karen Bass officially lifted the city’s curfew  from 8pm to 10pm on Tuesday, June 17th, after a week of tight restrictions in the downtown area. The curfew had been instated following five consecutive days of protests which are in response to President Trump’s federal immigration enforcement actions.

According to LAPD, since protests began on June 6th, at least 575 people have been arrested, including 14 for looting. Though the unrest has calmed in recent days, Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell stated the department would maintain a “strong presence” to both protect property and support the right to lawful assembly.

Known for their cinematic techno sound and emotionally immersive performances, Mathame has become one of the most sought-after acts in underground and experimental electronic music. The Giovanelli brothers, hailing from Bergamo, Italy, are respected for their atmospheric sets that combine electronic storytelling with haunting melodic structures.

Their Mathame Summer Tour was meant to usher in a new era of immersive soundscapes, visuals, and unreleased material — with Los Angeles set to be the first stop on the summer schedule.

The next scheduled show of the Framework Summer 2025 series is set to take place on Saturday June 28th at the Shrine Expo Hall featuring artists: RooseveltThe MagicianKiinjo, and headliner Purple Disco Machine. While Mathame’s performance has been canceled, This Is Framework has not yet announced whether upcoming shows in the Summer 2025 series will be affected. Fans are encouraged to follow @thisisframework on social media for real-time updates regarding ticket policies, rescheduled performances, and future lineup adjustments.

Mathame’s decision to stand in solidarity with the people of Los Angeles during a turbulent time reflects a growing awareness in the electronic music community of the intersection between art and activism. As the city continues to navigate the aftershocks of unrest, this cancellation is more than a missed show — it’s a moment of collective pause, reflection, and respect.
