If you stepped into the Shrine Expo Hall on June 28, you didn’t just walk into a concert—you walked into a disco time machine powered by laser beams, a live band, and a groovy crowd.

Co-presented by Goldenvoice and LA’s underground tastemakers, Framework, Purple Disco Machine turned Los Angeles into a neon-drenched paradise where sequins were currency and moved like Studio 54 never closed.

Warming up the room was a global palette of selectors. Kiinjo opened with a percussive, Afro-tinged vinyl set that eased the crowd into motion. The Magician followed with that signature blend of nostalgia-laced edits and funk-infused grooves. Then came Roosevelt, gliding in with dreamy synths and a soft-motion disco energy that blurred the line between house and indie pop. By the time Purple Disco Machine was ready, the room was already at capacity—physically and emotionally.

When the lights dropped, the transformation began. Purple Disco Machine didn’t roll in solo. He came backed by a live band—drummer, keyboardist, guest vocalists—all there to reimagine his discography into something that felt halfway between a Boiler Room set and a Daft Punk concert film.

The first half of the show leaned full live performance, with tracks like “Body Funk” and “Devil In Me” building through organic layers, while crowd favorites like “Hypnotized” turned the entire venue into one giant singalong. “Dopamine” and “Fireworks” hit like summer in a bottle. Newer tracks like “Something on My Mind” and “Wanna Feel Like a Lover” kept the crowd guessing, bouncing between vintage funk and nu-disco drama.

But what truly elevated the night was the production. Framework was in their bag—haze thick enough to slice, LED visuals pulsing like a heartbeat, dancers floating in and out of shadows like disco apparitions. One attendee near the back compared it to “a Studio 54 reboot… but directed by Nicolas Winding Refn.” Not far off.

Purple Disco Machine’s LA stop wasn’t just another date on a tour. It was a shared moment. A night that reminded everyone in that room that disco’s not just alive—it’s thriving, shapeshifting, and absolutely essential. Thanks to Goldenvoice and Framework, the Paradise Live Tour gave LA one of its most immersive nightlife memories of the year. My legs might be shot, but my spirit’s still spinning.
